Development of the real estate sector in Turkey for 2019 and the month December – Sales of Turkish real estate in 2019 roughly on the level of the previous year

In the whole year 2019 a total of 1,348,729 properties were sold, 1.9% less than in the year 2018. Of these 332,508 were financed by mortgages (2018: 276,820). The sale of new constructions amounted to 511,682 properties. The resale of properties amounts to 837,407 units.

Istanbul took first place with 237,675 transfers and a share of 17.6%, followed by Ankara with 132,486 and a share of 9.8%.

Transfers of real estate to foreign citizens increased by 14,7% year-on-year to 45,483 properties. The most popular provinces were again Istanbul, Antalya and Bursa.

Consideration for December 2019

In December a total of 202,074 properties were sold, 47.7% more than in December 2018. Istanbul took first place with 40,317 transfers and a share of 20%, followed by Ankara with 20,084 (9,9%) and Izmir with 12,284 transfers (6,1%).

Mortgage-financed increased by 603.4% to 50,278 properties. In total 24.9% (in December 2018 the share was 5.2%) of all transfers were financed by mortgages. Istanbul (10,137 properties) has the top position.

Self-financed transfers increased by 17% to 151,796. Istanbul (30,180), Ankara (13,873) and Izmir (8,548) are in the lead.

At 75,480 properties, new construction sales were 8% up compared to the same month last year. The sale of newly built properties has a total share of 37,4% of all real estate sales for December 2019 (December 2018: 51,1%). The resale of properties increased by 89% to 126,594 properties.

Transfers of real estate to foreign citizens decreased by 16,2% year-on-year. The most popular provinces were Istanbul, Antalya, Bursa, Ankara and Yalova.
